Now Offering New Training Course: Basic Muzzle Loading Shooting

As part of our continuing efforts to bring enjoyable, educational and useful training opportunities to the membership and broader community: the Exeter Sportsman’s Club is proud to announce the inaugural run of our new Basic Muzzle Loading Shooting Course.

Basic Muzzle Loading Shooting Course

When: Saturday November 8th (8:00 AM) and Sunday November 9th (9:00 AM)

Where: Exeter Sportsman’s Club, 111 Portsmouth Ave, Exeter NH 03833

Cost: $150 per student

This two-day, NRA certified course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of black powder, muzzleloading firearms.  Students will have the opportunity to handle, load, fire and learn to effectively clean and care for: percussion cap, and flintlock rifles, as well as percussion cap pistols, and cap-and-ball revolvers.

Long time deer hunter?  Local re-enactor? History Buff?  Complete novice looking for a non-intimidating entry-point into shooting?  Whether you are interested in learning about black powder muzzleloaders to extend your hunting season, or are interested in the historical nature of these firearms- this is an excellent way to get exposed to what can seem like a daunting and confusing shooting discipline in an engaging, enjoyable way.

The club provides all the firearms, ammunition and expendables.  Students are encouraged to bring personal eye and ear protection, though the club does provide loaners if students do not have their own.  Students should show up prepared to get a little dirty!  Shooting black powder is super fun- but can be messy.

The initial offering for this class is capped at 4 students.  After registration is full, students will be directed to also register on the NRA portal so that the associated post-class certifications can be awarded.
